Information Express: IATA new DGR (66th) lithium battery changes
Recently, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) published the 66th Dangerous Goods Regulation (DGR), which will be effective from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025. The new/changed content of the battery-related part relates to lithium batteries, sodium batteries, battery-powered vehicles and labels. The new contents of the lithium battery section are as follows:
Packing instruction
Lithium ion battery PI 966, PI 967 and lithium metal battery PI 969, PI 970

From January 1, 2026, cells or batteries above 2.7Wh shall not have more than 30% of their capacity.1) PI 966-I:
By December 31, 2025, it is recommended that the battery cell or battery be no more than 30% charged.
From January 1, 2026, the battery cell or battery must not exceed 30%.
2) PI 966-II:
By December 31, 2025, it is recommended that the battery cell or battery be no more than 30% charged.
2.7Wh or less cells or batteries are recommended not to exceed 30%.
3) PI 967-I/II:
The battery or battery capacity is recommended not to exceed 30%; Or the device indicates that the capacity does not exceed 25%.
